Gaelic Games Safeguarding 1 and Team Management Requirements 2021
For new Coaches/Potential Coaches they can now complete a TEMPORARY SG1 Course as per below:
The above arrangements apply to NEW or POTENTIAL underage coaches, it expires no later than 31 December 2021 and does not apply to current coaches or those who work in coaching or other roles of responsibility at Cúl Camps or Club Camps later this year.
Children’s Officers are requested to bring this temporary arrangement to the attention of new or potential coaches who have yet to attend their safeguarding training. The Temporary Safeguarding 1 Programme may be accessed and completed at https://learning.gaa.ie/tempsafeguarding1
For Existing Coaches who had already completed a Safeguarding 1 Course (SG1) in the last 3 to 5 years, they can access the SG1 Refresher Course as per link below:
SAFEGUARDING TRAINING FOR EXISTING COACHES
All Gaelic Games Safeguarding Workshop, whether delivered face-to -ace or as virtual (online) workshops, carry a 3 year validation period. The Gaelic Games Safeguarding Workshop include Safeguarding 1 ( Child Protection in Sport Awareness Workshop), Safeguarding 2 (Children’s Officer), Safeguarding 3 (Designated Liaison Person) plus the online refresher for Safeguarding 1.
Currently however there is a temporary exemption for 5 years until June 2021, due to the demand of on-line Workshops, for those who previously attended a face-to-face workshop up to five years ago for example in 2016. These individuals should complete the online safeguarding 1 refresher programme by the 30th of June 2021, to renew their safeguarding certificate for a further three years.

SG1 Online Training
If you have other members who require SG1 Training the process is to contact your County Children’s Officer who would request SG1 courses through Michelle Harte in the GAA.
All Team Management Personnel including FLO must be:
1. Currently registered with LGFA;
2. Currently Vetted with LGFA or GAA/Handball/Rounders/Camogie/Access NI (note: applicants up to 1st Jan 2019 would need to re-apply now);
3. Completed GAA Safeguarding 1 Course/Refresher in last 3 years (refresher expiry temporarily extended to 5 years, June 2021)
(FLO to complete an FLO LGFA workshop -Notification will be given when available)
All Team Management Personnel including Coaches, Mentors, Trainers etc involved in coaching players are also required to have:
1. Completed a basic coach qualification, eg LGFA FUNdamentals Course/Foundation/IGGC (minimum requirement);
A Supervisor (not coaching) working with Underage Players and Vulnerable Adults must be:
1. Currently registered with LGFA;
2. Currently Vetted with LGFA or GAA/Handball/Rounders/Camogie/Access NI (note: applicants up to 1st Jan 2019 would need to re-apply now);
3. Completed GAA Safeguarding 1 Course/Refresher in last 3 years (refresher expiry temporarily extended to 5 years, June 2021)
A Covid Supervisor:
Where possible should be a member of one of the associations.
Vetting/Access NI
The process for Vetting involves two steps as per link below.
Currently at Step 1 an Applicant needs to prove their identity to Club Children’s Officer and provide appropriate documentation which can be retained by Club Children’s Officer for the duration of the vetting process or the Applicant can choose after proving their identity to upload the identification documents at Step 2 in the process which is the On-Line Application Form.
